Fall is a great time to get away. The kids have gone back to school, the weather is still warm, and the leaves are turning colors. A fall getaway doesn’t have to cost a lot either. Here are a few ideas for a cheap fall getaway deals:
Once summer ends, attendance at amusement parks takes a deep dive. Many parks stay open well into fall, so if you can head to an amusement park after Labor Day, you may be able to avoid long lines and get steep discounts. It might be even better if you can get there mid-week.
In the tradition of Octoberfest, most states have a fall state fair. If you haven’t been to one in a while, it might be time to go back. The admission price is usually low, even for a family, and these days some of the top music acts in the country perform on the state fair circuit. Plus, there’s all that apple pie.
Fall is cruise-discount season. In the lull before the winter warriors abandon the north, cruise lines are searching for people to fill those boats. The kids are back in school, so even if you don’t opt for a couples-only cruise, you’ll likely end up on one for a fraction of the cost. Also, take a look at repositioning cruises. The boat may not be in full swing, but for a large discount you can accompany the boat and crew to a new port.
Even mighty Disney has an off-season. And fall is when you can take advantage of up to 25% discounts on rooms and resorts. You’ll likely head straight to the front of the line at Space Mountain too.
When the weather turns colder, the beach towns around the U.S. start to empty out. But more destinations are working harder to extend their seasons well into October in the north and into December in the south.
There is a short window for discounts in the grandest of national parks, which are mostly found in colder climates. Head to Yellowstone or the Grand Tetons after summer ends and not only will you enjoy far fewer people, but you’ll find good discounts on hotels.
Ski resorts start to gear up for winter in the late fall, but in September and October you may be able to find incredible deals while the weather is still relatively warm. If you’re a hiker, mountain biker, fisherman or golfer you’ll love the resorts as much as the snow bunnies.
If you’re in a position to grab a getaway in fall, you may be surprised to learn that there are plenty of deals to be had, if you just look around a little.
